Tackling Homelessness

The plight of homeless people has been a long standing concern of mine. I have been involved in a number of voluntary projects to help the homeless, serving as co-director to the Riverside Shelter for the Homeless in New York and in more recent years volunteering with the Truro Homeless Action Group.

HMS Ocean Crew to Visit Parliament

Members of the ship's company of HMS Ocean will be attending Parliament for a tour of the Palace of Westminster.This has been organised by Richard Fuller MP who served on HMS Ocean as part of the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme, whereby Members of Parliament can experience life with a serving unit in the armed forces.
The crew will be able to learn more of the history of Parliament before being treated to a reception where they can learn more about the work of MPs.

APPG for Deep Geothermal Energy

Sarah Newton MP and Lord Robin Teverson are forming the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Deep Geothermal Energy.The inaugural meeting will be held in Committee Room 15 of the House of Commons at 4:30pm and the Energy Minister Greg Barker MP will be opening the APPGThis group will bring together MPs and peers from all sides of the House so that they can highlight the benefits of deep geothermal energy as a clean, safe, viable, renewable power source and make this case to the Government and key stakeholders.

Federation of Small Businesses Visit to Parliament

Sarah Newton MP is hosting an event for members of the Mid Cornwall branch of the Federation of Small Businesses in the Houses of Parliament.As well as being offered a tour of the Palace of Westminster, FSB members will also invited to attend the launch of a new business guide that has been produced by Sarah's office.  This free guide lists organisations that can help small businesses to get started, get access to financial help and find the support that they need to grow and flourish.

Apprenticeships

In these difficult economic times many young people are struggling to find work. In 2012 the ‘100 Apprentices in 100 Days’ campaign successfully managed to place 100 young people from Truro and Falmouth with local businesses, giving them the opportunity to gain vital skills for the workplace and learn a trade.

How to Save Money Heating your Home

This will be an all-day event that is due to take place on Lemon Quay in Truro between 11am and 3pm on Wednesday 15th August, and will be a great opportunity for members of the general public to drop-in and receive free information, advice, and guidance on how they can save money on their energy bills this winter.

Clerk of the House of Commons visit
