Sarah Newton MP, Member of Parliament for Truro and Falmouth, yesterday took the opportunity to make the case for the Falmouth Port Masterplan directly the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne MP.
Sarah met with the Chancellor at St. Mawes to discuss the opportunities that the Plan could bring to Falmouth with new jobs being created and a major boost to the local economy through business growth. The Masterplan estimates that the total number of full-time jobs at the port will increase by 54 percent over the next four years and by 138 percent by 2030, bringing the total number of jobs to 3,335.
Sarah was joined by Peter Childs and Mike Reynolds of A&P Falmouth, Mark Samson of the Falmouth Harbour Commissioners and Cornwall Councillor Chris Ridgers, who also had the chance to convince the Chancellor of the economic benefits of the Masterplan.
Sarah Newton MP said: “I am delighted that we have had this opportunity to show the Chancellor the benefits of the Port of Falmouth Masterplan here in Cornwall, overlooking the Falmouth Harbour. I feel that by seeing firsthand the site of the proposed plans as well as meeting with key members of the team, will help to strengthen the case for the Plan going ahead and will increase our chances of success.”
“It is absolutely vital to securing the future economic prosperity of Falmouth that this Plan is given the green light.”
