The local community are invited to join Evelyn Boscawen, son of Viscount Falmouth, Sarah Newton MP, Cllr Mike Eathorne-Gibbons and parish council representatives for a formal opening of the new play equipment at Tresillian Playing Field on 30th June from 12pm.
Local fund raising from the community, and small grants from Cornwall Council, Tregothnan estate and the parish council kick started a fundraising campaign which attracted £10,000 from The National Lottery Community Fund and £21,000 from Pocket Parks Plus, a Government funding scheme from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. The funds provide a range of play equipment which will increase the number of children using the playing field, particularly young children.
Helen Nicholson, Chair of the Management Committee said: “We hope the community will come and celebrate together and reclaim this Playing Field as a place for village events starting with a BBQ and games on Sunday. We’re delighted that this equipment is now installed in time for the summer and we hope the children will be using it all the time. Without the support of our local and national funders, this wouldn’t have been possible for a small village community like Tresillian so we also want to take the opportunity to thank them for getting behind this project, and recognizing the value of this greenspace for the village and for the children”.
Sarah Newton, Member of Parliament for Truro & Falmouth said, having visited the event,: “I was honoured to join Helen Nicholson and the team in Tresillian who have worked so hard over a long period of time to raise the funds for the new play equipment. I was delighted to present Mrs Kitley with some flowers to mark her twenty plus years of voluntary work on the Committee. Together the community have created a lovely place for people of all ages to come together to relax and play. The young children love the new equipment and BBQ was a great success.”
