Inter Faith Week, now in its eighth year, began on Sunday 13 November. It has become a firm fixture in the national calendar and it is a Week that is about learning, respect, cooperation, new friendships and stronger communities. In a message about the Week, Prime Minister Theresa May said:
"Inter Faith Week is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the incredible diversity and richness of faith communities in Britain. It is also a chance for people of all faiths to come together and to highlight the invaluable contribution they collectively make to their neighbourhoods and to wider society."
There are a number of events taking place in Cornwall as part of Inter Faith Week. Please see below for more information:
Cornwall Faith Forum Exhibition in the Long Gallery, County Hall, Truro. From 14th - 18th November. Also Sister Iqbal Warsi will be talking about 'Understanding Islam' on Tuesday, 15th November from 1.00 pm - 2.00 pm in the Grenville Room at County Hall. All are welcome to attend. Thursday, 17th November - Journeys for Peace - Feock Church Hall. Two interesting talks - one from Dureid Rifai about the Hajj - A Journey of Solidarity and Submission. The second talk is by Paul Haines who in 2015 walked from Rome to Jerusalem for Peace and Reconciliation. All are very welcome to attend. See flyer with directions HERE
The Falmouth University and University of Exeter (Penryn Campus) are celebrating Interfaith week with a small exhibition of sacred texts. Fr Nikitas Lantsbery, the Orthodox Chaplain and Sophia Linda Peet (Falmouth Fine Art Graduate & Iconographer) will be at the Falmouth campus library with some icons on Thursday 17th November from 2-4pm and available to talk to anyone interested.
Volunteer Opportunity – Arabic speaker for Syrian families (mid-Cornwall) - Syrian Friends Community Project offers befriending to Syrian families in Cornwall, and delivers a range of community engagement activities to Syrian refugees in Cornwall including open community groups for all Syrians and Arabic speakers in Cornwall.
