Improving Road Safety in Cubert

Update - 22nd February 2016

Commenting on the funding secured for improvements to Cubert Crossroads on the A3075, Sarah Newton MP said:

"I am delighted that Cornwall Council will be funding the business case for this vitally important road improvement. Cllr Lisa Gorman has worked tirelessly for the community, working with Parish Councils, to make the case for this road improvement. I hope the business case will be completed by September so that Cornwall Council can include the scheme in its bid for Government Funding for a package of local transport infrastructure improvements. I will continue to do everything to support Cllr Gorman and Cornwall Council to secure this funding. I very much hope that we will see the road improvements on the A3075 completed before work starts dualling the A30 between Carland Cross and Chiverton Cross."

Update - 8th December

Yesterday, the first public engagement event considering new proposals for the improvement of Cubert Crossroads went well. Cornwall Councillor Lisa Gorman informed me that in the first hour of the local event, 150 people turned up. She went onto say; "It was only held for 4 hours and in total we have had over 20% of people on the electoral register in the area turn out."

The next public engagement event is on Tuesday 15th December in the Oxnam Room, St Newlyn East from 3-7pm. For more information about the proposals and how to have your say visit http://bit.ly/1NT4hRv

Cubert crossroads has caused concern for almost 30 years and so far improvements have failed to properly address the issue. With new housing developments in Newquay, estimates suggest that the crossroads may be used by up to four times as many cars. That is why I welcome new plans to undertake a more comprehensive redevelopment of the crossroads.

There are two public consultations on the current plans. The first will be held on Monday 7 December at Cubert Village Hall. The second will take place on Tuesday 15 December in the Oxnam Room, St Newlyn East. I urge local residents to become involved in this consultation process so that their views are heard on this important matter.

I have worked with the Parish Council and have met with Nigel Blackler and Phil Mason from Cornwall Council in support of this development.

In particular, I commend the hard work of Cllr Lisa Gorman and Alan Percy, Chairman of Cubert Parish Council, for their hard work in pushing for redevelopment of the crossroads.
